Festive Fun: Christmas Sensory Play
Jess (@learnandbloom) | December 07, 2021
Get festive with some Christmas themed sensory play using coloured rice and Grapat loose parts. Coloured rice is easy to make and a wonderful resource that lasts for so long. Add cups and bowls to scoop and pour help to develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Sensory play also builds cognitive development through sensory stimulation. It’s fun for all ages!
If you create a Christmas Sensory Tray with your little learners, please take a photo and share it with us on Instagram and Facebook, tagging @oskarswoodenark and using the hashtag: #OWACHRISTMAS.
You will need:
• Food colouring
• Rice
• Grapat loose parts, mates and nins
• Magnetic wands
• Bells
• DIY baubles
Step 1:
Add uncooked rice to a small bag, a few drops of red & green food colouring and a teaspoon of vinegar to help spread and set the colour. Seal and shake the bag to mix the colour.
Step 2:
Let the coloured rice dry in backing trays.
Step 3:
Once the rice is dry put it in a tub along with some Grapat loose parts, Christmas bells and magnetic wands.
Step 4:
Children can use Learn and Grow magnetic wands to search for bells inside. They can use the Grapat mates to scoop rice or nins for role play, or create their own baubles!
