What makes Grunspecht Marble Trees special?

What makes Grunspecht Marble Trees special?

Grunspecht Musical Marble Trees are made in Germany from eco-harvested Birch and Maple wood and the leaves are coloured using non-toxic plant based dyes. They are CE Certified and admired for their striking rainbow colours, mesmerising sound, incredible quality, natural wood grain and beautiful design.

The trademarked Grunspecht Klangbaum® was awarded the Deutscher Designpreis Holzspielzeug in 2000, which is the German toy industry's highest award for a wooden toy.

Every design aspect of the Grunspecht Marble Tree has been carefully considered to create a beautiful calming melody, from the number of leaves and the spacing between them to the length of the ‘tree trunk’ and the resonance of the wood.

A Grunspecht Musical Marble Tree is a high-quality piece of wooden craftsmanship, built for generations of use.

How to play with a Grunspecht Musical Marble Tree?

The idea behind the Grunspecht Musical Marble Tree is simple, and yet it is a toy that can provide hours and hours of stimulating play. Release a marble at the top of the tree and watch it roll down, skipping from one rainbow leaf to the next.

The leaves are placed around the trunk in descending size order, with each leaf making a different sound. The resulting melody is both soothing and grounding, and the movement of the marbles is mesmerising to watch – a wonderful way to create some calm and encourage mindfulness.

Set the marbles in motion one at a time or all together. The more marbles you send travelling down the tree, the more interesting the sound becomes. Children will enjoy experimenting with marbles and balls of different sizes and materials (for example, glass or wood) to create different sound effects.

A Grunspecht Musical Marble Tree can be integrated into other imaginative and open-ended play. We've seen children use their marble tree as a magical rainbow tower in a small-world play scene or as part of more elaborate ball runs, incorporating building blocks and other wooden toys from brands such as Grimm's Wooden Toys and KADEN Marble Runs.

What sizes are available in the Grunspecht Musical Marble Tree range?

There are FOUR different sized marble trees available within the Grunspecht range, each of which has thirty leaves in the same striking rainbow colours:

Small 36cm: The Small Grunspecht Marble Tree (sometimes referred to as the "Mini") stands at a petite 36cm. It comes with six clear glass marbles and is perfect for table-top play.

Medium 48cm: The Medium Grunspecht Marble Tree stands at a respectable 48cm tall and comes with 6 coloured glass marbles. It can be easily transported from one location to another - a good choice for on-the-go play.

Large 72cm: The Large Grunspecht Marble Tree is our best selling marble tree, standing at an impressive 72cm. It comes with 6 coloured glass marbles. This marble tree is a real feature piece, sure to brighten up any room or play space. This size is great for collaborative play and is a popular choice for younger children as it is compatible with larger balls and marbles

What is the age recommendation for Grunspecht Musical Marble Trees?

The recommended age is 3+ years. Grunspecht marble trees come with small marbles which present a choking hazard.

Despite the high quality craftsmanship of these products, the leaves are not built to withstand the weight of a child putting excess force or pressure on them. If used incorrectly, the Grunspecht marble trees can topple over, and if damaged or broken, the leaves could become jagged, presenting a hazard for younger children. Grunspecht Musical Marble Trees are therefore not recommended for children under three years of age.

Younger children will love watching and listening to the marbles as they roll down the tree, and some customers have even enjoyed utilising their Musical Marble Tree as a tummy-time toy for babies to encourage neck control and strength. If using Grunspecht Musical Marble Trees with children younger than three years, strict adult supervision is essential at all times.

What melody can I expect from my Grunspecht Marble Tree?

What melody can I expect from my Grunspecht Marble Tree?

"Warm, musical tones", "Soothing", "Therapeutic", "Rhythmic", "Calming to the senses", "A bit like wooden wind chimes tinkling in the breeze"...

These are some of the words our customers have used to describe the sound of their Grunspecht Musical Marble Trees.

If you haven't already, we would recommend watching the video above which demonstrates the melodies created by the trees, as well as the effect of adding one marble at a time versus multiple marbles dropped in all at once. No two melodies are the same, and the wonderful sound is something you simply must experience for yourself!
